Review & Intro: Moses has reminded the people as they are about to enter the promised land how the Lord gave them tests in the wilderness to humble them and see what was in their heart for the Lord. He will remind them in Chapter 10 how the Lord was gracious to rewrite the 10 commandments for them and then He will tell them what the Lord requires from them. It will only be responsible if they circumcise their hearts and stop having a stiff neck. Have we had our hearts circumcised by Him?
1. After Moses had shattered the first set of commandments that the Lord had written when he witnessed the worship of the golden calf led by his brother, the High Priest, Aaron .... We see the Lord's grace in being willing to rewrite them again on stones. This time, what must Moses do? vs. 1 - Name 3 thingsHew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood
2. What was Moses to do with the tablets after the Lord rewrote the commandments on them? vs. 2 put them into the ark
3. Moses made an ark of acacia wood, cut out two tablets of stone like the former ones, and went up on the mountain with the two tablets in his hand. (vs.3) Do you think it was easy for a man over 100 years of age now to go up the mountain with those tablets in hand?No
4. Who wrote on the tablets like the former writing of the 10 commandments? vs. 4God
5. As they journeyed on from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, what did the land have there? vs. 7
Rivers of waters
6. At that time, who did the Lord set apart to carry the ark of the covenant and to serve Him and bless His name? vs. 8Johua
7. As a result of full-time ministry work, the tribe of Levi did not have a portion of the land or inheritance with the other tribes. Who is their inheritance? vs. 9 The LOrd
8. Moses was on the mountain the 2nd time the same as the 1st time. How many days and nights was he there? vs. 10
40 days and 40 nights
9. What did the Lord require of Israel? vs.12,13 - List 7 things12And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 13To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
10. What is the result of doing these things? vs. 13 for their good
11. What belongs to the Lord? vs. 14 - List 4 things
ehold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is
12. Although all of this belongs to the Lord, who did He set His affection upon? vs. 15
15Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.
13. In response to His love for them, they were to circumcise their hears and stop having a stiff neck. (vs.16) What does it mean to circumcise the heart? Comment on the verses below:
14. Back to Deuteronomy 10. Fill in the blank from Deut.10:17 - "For the Lord your God is the God of __gods___ and the Lord of _lords____, the ___great God__, the _Mighty_Terrible___, and the ___regardeth___ God who does not show _____ nor take a _reward____."
15. Who does the Lord execute "justice" for ? vs. 18 - List 3 groups given
fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger
16. How does the Lord show His care for them? vs. 18
given them food and clothing

18. Another fill in the blank from verse 20,21 ..... "You shall _____ the Lord your God; you shall _____ Him and ______ to Him, and you shall swear by His name. (vs.20) ... He is your ______ and He is your _____, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen." (vs.21)
19. How many people were in the family of Jacob (Israel) when they went down to Egypt during the famine of Joseph's time? vs. 22 threescore and ten persons
20. How many people were in the family of Israel at this time when ready to enter the promised land? vs. 22hy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.
21. How how God kept His promises to father Abraham? Comment on the verse below:
22. The Lord told them to circumcise their hearts and stop having a stiff neck. Are you a person with a stiff neck toward the things of the Lord? The picture is one of being hard headed and not willing to change your ways. It comes back to being humble and not proud. Pride in our own ways and ideas is rebellion. We need to find out what the Lord wants from us and do it "His" way. Review what He told them to do in regard to having a relationship with Him. Summarize Deuteronomy 10:12,13, and 19-21
23. What are things we have been told to do as believers to keep our hearts humble and not hardened toward God?
24. What are steps we can take to avoid a hardened heart and stay humble before the Lord?
25. We are told in this chapter that we are to "cling" to the Lord. Rewrite Deuteronomy 10:20 below and comment on the other verses as well.
26. In a day where we are taught against codependence and self exaltation, does it seem unnatrual for you to "cling" to the higher power of the Lord? Please comment.
27. Summarize this lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
