Review & Intro: Before the new generation crosses the Jordan into areas of new conquest, Moses reviews for them the victories they have already witnessed, such as the utter defeat of Sihon, king of the Amorites we saw in Chapter 2 of Deuteronomy. They have gone from "wanderers" in the wilderness to "warriors", becoming well known to the enemies around them. In Chapter 3, they will do the same thing to the kingdom of Og in Bashan and all of his cities and people. When you think upon the timeline of your own life, you see the times of victory and the times of defeat. Where are you at currently .. having victory or defeat? ... God wants to remind us again that in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are more than conquerors! Amen.
1. After the defeat of Sihon, king of the Amorites from Heshbon, they turned and went up the road to Bashan. What did Og, king of Bashan and his people come out to do and where was it at? vs. 1Edral
2. What did the Lord tell Moses concerning Og? vs. 2not to be afraid of him
3. Who delivered Og, king of Bashan, and his people into Israel's hand? vs. 3God
4. The Psalmist declares this victory of the Lord as well. Comment on the following verses:
5. Back to Deuteronomy 3. Israel captured all of Og's cities at that time. How many fortified cities did that include? vs. 4,5 -60
6. They utterly destroyed the kingdom of Og as they had done the kingdom of Sihon, not leaving any survivors, and taking the spoil of the cities as their booty. (vs.6-9) ... Og, the king of Bashan was the only one left of the remnant of the giants, the Rephaim. His bedstead was still around to remind them just how big this man was. What was the size of the bed? (convert that into measurements we understand as well if you can) - vs.10,11 -13 by 9
7. What land did Moses give to the Reubenites and the Gadites that they had conquered and possessed on that side of the Jordan? vs. 12 from Aroer to half the mountain Gileas and all Bashan
8. Who did Moses give the rest of Gilead and all of Bashan to? vs. 13the half tribe of Manasseh
9. What did Jair, the son of Manasseh receive? vs. 14all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi
10. What did Jair name that area? vs. 14Bashanhavothjair
11. What did Machir receive? vs. 15Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok,
12. Describe the area that was given to the Reubenites and the Gadites given in verses 16 & 17 - Fill in the blanks: "From _Gilead___ even as far as the valley of ____, the middle of the valley as a border and as far as the river _____, the border of the sons of _____ (vs.16) ... the _____ also, with the Jordan as a border, from _____ even as far as the seas of the _____, the Salt Sea, at the foot of the slopes of _____ on the east. (vs.17)"
13. Moses reminded them of the command he gave to these tribes (Reuben, Gad, and 1/2 tribe of Manesseh) of how they could leave their wives, little ones, and livestock in the conquered areas given them on that side of the Jordan. He wanted the vailant men of their armies to cross over with the rest of Israel.(vs.18-20) When could they return to their families and possessions again? vs. 20 -when the others tribes had there lands
14. Moses reminded Joshua of the victories over these 2 kings, Sihon & Og, as well as the fact the the Lord was the One who gave the victories to them. (vs.21) This was to encourage him as he lead the troops to conquer the lands of Canaan on the other side of the Jordan. Write out the specific encouragement he gave to Joshua - vs. 22Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.
15. Moses also reminded everyone that he had "pleaded" with the Lord to change His mind about allowing him (Moses) to go into the promised land with everyone. (vs.23-25)...What did Moses feel he had just "begun" to observe about the Lord at this point in his life (even though he was 120 years of age) ... ? vs. 23
16. What was the Lord's explicit answer to him when he continued to ask? vs. 26 no
17. The Lord told Moses to go up to the top of Mt. Pisgah and he would be able to view the land with his eyes - to the west, north, south, and east ... but he would not be able to cross over the Jordan river with them. (vs.27) ... He was to charge Joshua with the task of taking the people over. What 2 things did that include? vs. 28aencourage him, and strengthen
18. Where did they remain at that time? vs. 29Bethpeor.
20. What interesting thing happened there? Comment on the verse below:
19. Moses begged the Lord to change His mind about not allowing him to enter the promised land. The Lord told him to stop asking; He was not going to change His mind. He did allow Moses to see the land from Mt. Pisgah before he died. Let's look at two other instances of men asking the Lord to change His mind and how they submitted to God's will above their own. Comment on the following verses:
20. Have you ever begged the Lord to change His mind concerning something that you have had to endure? Do you remember when you finally stopped asking because you could rest in His will for you above your own? Share your experience with us if you don't mind?
21. The heart of Moses is revealed as he passes the paton over to his servant Joshua. He will encourage him and strengthen him. Our own failures and sad disappointments can be a platform of ministry to help others and to strengthen them as we have learned from our own mistakes and want to help them avoid the pitfalls. Do you have some examples from your own life?
22. Read and comment on the verse below:
23. What causes us to be "more than conquerors" in the Lord Jesus Christ? Comment on these verses; what is the ingredient that causes us to be "warriors" in Him?
24. Summarize the lesson and post a prayer if you would like.

Deuteronomy 6
Review & Intro: After reminding the Israelites about the 10 commandments they heard the Lord give to Moses on the mountain from the midst of the fire in Chapter 5, Moses explains to them now in Chapter 6, the motive of the heart in obeying the Lord's commands. We are to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, and strength, and teach our children to do so as well.
Deuteronomy Chapter 6 - Observation Questions
1. What would be the result of Israel obeying the commandment, statutes, and judgments that the Lord gave Moses to teach them? vs. 1,2
Prolong life.
2. What would cause them to live a long time in the land they were going to possess? vs. 2
fearing God
3. Why was Israel encouraged to listen and be careful to do the things that were commanded them by the Lord through the words of Moses? vs. 3 - Name 2 thingsThat it would be wee with them and that they would multply.
4. Moses says to Israel "The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!" (vs.4) .... Who is one with the Father? Comment on the following verses:
- John 1:18 -God talked to the people in thfe o.t. though prophets and others that He chose. But no one has ever seen God. The Only Begotton Son is al tiile showing us that He is both God and Jesus.
- John 10:30 -God and jesus are one and the same. This veres is the clearest statement that can be maded of who they are.
- John 17:11 -We as christaina are to be united toghether ans one in love and hermony. As the Father ,Sn and Holy ghost are one. Our spritits as christains should always be a wittness of God mercy ans grace. This is the strongest of all unions.
- John 17:21 -We as christain want to worry about who get the biggest blessin . I f we consiontrat on the will of God and unite in love as a christain family then just think of the wittness for God we really could be.
- 1 John 2:23 -Who seods not beliveon Jesus soes not belive in God they are one. You can't believe in one and not theother.
5. In what ways are we to love the Lord our God? vs. 5 - Name 3 areas
With all our hearts souls and minds.
6. What did Jesus say was the greatest commandment of all? Comment on the verses below:
- Matthew 22:36-40 -Jesus said to him" You shall love the Lord your God with all you heart ans with all your soul and with all your mind.
7. What does this look like in our lives? How do we love the Lord with all our heart, our souls, our mind, our strength? Share your thoughts.
We can pray for each other and lefted each other up If we see a fellow christaon in trouble or having a hard time with a burden we are to sahrer that burden with them . If it was a family member we would do it in a heart beat but some times we need to step out side ou cofor box and put out a hel;ing hand to even those we don't know .
8. Back to Deuteronomy 6. ... The Lord said through Moses that these commands were to be on their "heart". (vs.6) ... They were to teach them diligently to their sons. When were they to teach them? vs.7 - Name 4 situations daily given
sitting in your homes. when your are walking by the way . when you lay down. and we rise. If we want to teach our kids about God and His love then we have to show themGos in everything we do each and everyday. God is everywere and that is what we need to teach our kids. He is not just in church on sunday morings but he goes with us were ever we go. so we may want to rember that where we go God goes with us . That is a lot to think about .
9. What does it mean to have them "on your heart"? It ties back to "loving the Lord" with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind. It is a matter of the heart. Love is the motivating factor. What did Jesus say in regard to His commandments? Comment on the verses below:
- John 14:15 -We will keep God's laws if we love him
- John 14:21 -We keep the commandments to show our love to God. Love is a commitment not just words. We need to put actoin with those words.
- John 15:10 -
- 1 John 5:2 -
- 1 John 5:3 -
- 2 John 1:6 -
10. Back to Deuteronomy 6. ... (vs.8,9) ...The Lord told Moses to tell them to bind His commands to their hands, their frontals, and on the doorposts of their house and on their gates. Although we have His commands on our hearts and in our hearts, it is good to have visual reminders when the day gets busy or our lives get hectic. Do you have visual reminders to draw you back to His Word and prayer? Share if you would like; give the others ideas to think upon.
11. It would come about that the Lord would bring them into the promised land. They would be given great and splendid cities which they did not build ... houses full of good things which they did not fill ... hewn cisterns they did not dig ... vineyards and olive trees they did not plant ... They would eat and be satisfied. (vs.10,11) What danger would they face as they became satisfied and had it so good? vs. 12
12. Moses tells them again that they Lord commands that they fear only Him and worship only Him. They are not to follow other gods; any of the gods of the peoples who surround them. (vs.13,14) ... What would the anger and jealousy of the Lord do to them if they were to worship other gods? vs. 15
13. They were not to put the Lord to the "test" as they tested Him at Massah. (vs.16) ... Review what happened in that situation and give a summary from the verses below:
- Exodus 17:1-7 -
14. What will be the benefits of Israel keeping God's commandments and doing what is right and good in the land that they possess? vs. 17,18
15. When their sons asked them in later times the reason why they kept the testimonies, statutes, and judgments that the Lord had given them, what were they to tell their sons? vs. 20-25
16. Again, why did the Lord give them the commandments and statutes to observe and follow? vs.24-25 - Name 5 things
Application:
17. The chapter has covered more than "keeping" God's commandments. It has focused on the issue of His commandments being on "our heart". We have seen that it is most important what our "motive" is for obeying the Lord, and the only motive should be because we "love" Him. Let's examine our hearts and think about why we read the Bible in this group and why we do other things with Christians, church, etc. Is it because we love Him - with all our hearts, minds, soul, and strength? Examine your "motives" and ask the Lord to show you His love for you and your love for Him. Renew your love commitment today. Here are some verses to meditate on:
- Psalm 119:11 -
- 1 Peter 1:6-9 -
- 1 John 4:16 -
- 1 John 5:3 -
18. Summarize the lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
Deuteromomy 5
Review & Intro: In Deuteronomy Chapter 4, we looked at how the Lord longed for them to follow His commandments, but knew in advance that they would follow after other gods and cause Him to discipline them, scattering them away from the land He would give to them. Yet, He reassured them that they would seek Him when they became distressed and they would find Him when they sought Him with their heart. Now, Moses will review the 10 commandments with them, and express to them again how the Lord gave him all the statutes, judgments, and ordinances for them to follow in order to have the Lord's blessings upon them. God's law is the standard. He must lay it out for them to know right from wrong and to know how He cares enough to set boundaries up for them.
Deuteronomy Chapter 5 - Observation Questions
1. Moses summoned all of Israel to hear the statutes and ordinances he was speaking to them that they may learn them and observe them carefully. (vs.1) ... He reminded them that the Lord made a covenant with them at Horeb that He had not made with their fathers. (vs.2) ... The Lord spoke to them from the fire on the mountain. (vs.3,4) ... Who stood between them and the Lord because of their fear? vs. 5-Moses
2. What did Moses declare to them? vs. 5-God's word
3. The Lord told them, "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery" (vs.6) ... and then He gave the 10 commandments. List them below. (vs.7-21)
1)
1111.)Yous shall have no other gods before you.
You will not make any graving imges2.)
3) You will not take the lord's name in vain.
4)Observe the Saveath and keep it holy
5)Honor thy father and mother
6)Do not muder
7)do not steal
8) do not bear false wittnes against your neibor
9)do not commit adultery
10)do not covet your neightbors wife and shall not desire your neighbors house.
4. How does the Lord describe Himself? vs. 9 He is a jealous God
5. Are you blessed that God is 'jealous' for you? Share if you would like.
6. We know that as believers we are part of the generations that have loved the Lord. For those who have hated Him, are the children doomed to have a generational curse upon them for their father's sin? The good news is that although some addictions and behaviors are certainly harder to break when a parent has done certain things, each person is accountable to God for their own sin; not that of his or her parents. Comment on the following verses:
- Deuteronomy 24:16God wants us to know Him for real not jut what others tell us about Him He wants a real relationship with each of us one on one.
- Ezekiel 18 - entire chapter
So, everytime a person is born again and comes into the kingdom of God, we have a new Father and a new family. We become a new creation! Amen.
7. For those who take the Lord's Name in vain, what will surely happen to them? vs. 11
God will not hold them guiltless
Note: What do you think it means to take His Name in vain? Do you think it is when we use God's name as a curse to another? That would be one way, but think about the meaning of the word "vain". It means "emptiness, vanity, falsehood, lying, worthlessness" ...So it could mean that we apply God's Name to things He has not said that turn out to not be true and we hurt His Name and Character for doing so. It could be not giving the correct estimate of Who He is to others when we complain and murmer. It is far more than just using it as a curse word. Personally, I never speak for God, other than to take the people to His Word and let the Word speak for Himself. Amen.
8. What promise came to Israel if they would honor their fathers and their mothers? vs. 16
Their lives would be prolonged.
9. These were the words that the Lord spoke to the assembly from the midst of the fire on the mountain. He did not add anything else. What else did He personally do for them? vs. 22
added.
10. The people came near to Moses through the heads of their tribes and elders (vs.23) ... What had the people experienced for themselves? vs. 24 - Name 4 things
His greatness, his glory and HIs voice
11. The people were afraid to continue to hear the voice of the Lord for fear of their lives. (vs.25,26) ...
obedtian heart so the woud keep his commandments
They asked that Moses hear and then tell them what God spoke to him. They said they would hear and do it. (vs.27) ... The Lord said that had done well in all they had spoken concerning that. (vs. 28) ... What kind of heart did the Lord desire that they would have and why? vs. 29 -
12. After the people went back to their tents, the Lord spoke directly to Moses all the commandments, statutes, and judgments he was to teach the people so that they would observe them in the land they were going to be given as a possession. (vs.31) ... If they would not turn to the right or the left, but stay focused on God's will, what would He do for them? vs. 32,33 -That you may live and be well and prolong your life.
Application:
13. One of the key verses is when the Lord speaks His heart in saying in verse 29 - "Oh, that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep My commandments" - We can sense that He knows they cannot keep His Word. He knew that one day, with the coming of the Holy Spirit, man would finally be able to have that kind of heart within them. Take time to comment on the following verses of the Promise of the Spirit coming, and the things we have today because we have believed in the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus the Christ, and He has given the Holy Spirit to us! Amen.
- Isaiah 44:3 -
- Ezekiel 11:19 -
- Ezekiel 26:26 -
- Ezekiel 26:27 -
- John 3:5 -
- John 7:39 -
- John 14:17 -
- John 14:26 -
- John 15:26 -
- John 16:13 -

Ps 5:1 Give ear to my words o Lord consider my mediation.
the secert of a close relationship with God is to pray to Him every moring. In the morning our minds and heartsw are free of problems of thsi world. then we can commit our day to Him. We need to pra daily (talking to God daily) Set some time each moring pour out our hearts to Him.
Ps 5:2
Give heed to the voice of my cry. My king and my God. For to you I will pray.
Ps5:3
My vouce You shall hear ing the morning O God . In the mornig I will direct it to You.
Give God our daily lives for His honor and glory is the lest we can do for what all he does for us each and every day.
Ps5:4
For You are not a God whe takes pleasure ing wickness nor shall evil dwell with you.
God can not live in a sinfully heart. That is not to say that He leaves us when e sin but that we need to asked forgivness of our sins daily.
Ps 5:5
The boustfull shall not stand in your sight You hate all workes of iniquity.
God can not sondone or excuse even the smallest sin, Therfore we can not excuse ourselves for dinning just a little bit. Sin is sin in God's eyes and so it should be in ours.
We don't need to get comfortabale as we have today on what is sin. If God's word says it is a sin then it is a sin. We need to learn from our sins and not getcomfotobale with it. As God makes us aware fo sin we must change . As beliver shoud stive to be more tolandt of peopl but not of their sins.
