Deuteronomy 2

Blog EntryOct 6, '12 3:28 PM
by Doggie for everyone
Review & Into:  In Deuteronomy Chapter 1, we saw that it was a "farewell address" to the people of Irael before he dies and they enter the Promised Land. He reviewed their history, how they went from Mt. Sinai to this land 38 years before, but faltered in faith when they heard the report of the spies. God told that generation they would die in the wilderness and that their children would enter the land. He told them to set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea (Deut. 1:40). Chapter 2 is a continuation of the history lesson of how they got to where they are at this time about to cross over to the Promised Land.

Application:
29.  Moses and Aaron along with the faithful Caleb and Joshua had to turn around and go through the wilderness for the unbelief of all the others.  Many times the godly suffer the consequences of unbelief and decisions of others.  Our individual responsibility is to remain faithful to the Lord and to continue to look to the reward in following Him no matter what others have caused in our lives.  Comment on the following verses:
  • 1 Peter 4:12-19 -
  • 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12 -
  • Hebrews 12:1-3 -
  • Matthew 5:43-48 -
30.  God had given land to possess to the blood relatives of Israel.  Esau was Israel (Jacob's) brother - remember the story of Jacob & Esau - (Genesis 27-36)  ... The land of Moab and Ammon were blood relatives too. Do you remember the story of Lot and his daughters after the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah? (Genesis 19:31-38 ) ... The Israelites were not to provoke them but to pass through their areas peacefully not coveting what the Lord had given them.  We are to not covet what our relatives or friends have been blessed with.  We have been taught to be content with what the Lord has given us.  Comment on these verses:
  • Exodus 20:17 -
  • Deuteronomy 7;25 -
  • 1 Timothy 6:6-12 -
  • Philippians 4:11-13 -
  • Hebrews 13:5 -
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18 -
31.   Moses reminds the Israelites that there were giants in the lands that God had given Esau, Moab, and Ammon to possess, but they had driven them out and possessed their land.  It is a reminder to them that upon the report of "giants in the land", they had not believed Him and had not gone in to occupy at that time.  Only Caleb and Joshua had returned with the good word that they would surely overcome with God's help, but the people were weak, afraid, and full of unbelief, and would not do it.  Consequently, they had wandered in the wilderness and died off, one by one.  What giants are you facing today?  God wants you to believe Him; to believe His word; to stand firm in faith and be an overcomer.  Comment on these verses:
  • 1 John 4:4
  • 1 Peter 5:8-11
  • Ephesians 6:10-18
32.  Read Psalm 136:19-26 - The Psalmist recounts the mercies of the Lord through the wilderness journeys and the battles they faced.  His mercy endures forever.  Write out a summary of this prayer of praise \o/
33.  Summarize this lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
 My thoughts on Ps 5:1-3

                                  Pray
Ps 5:1 Give ear to my words o Lord consider my mediation.
the secert of a close relationship with God is to pray to Him every moring.  In the morning  our minds and heartsw  are free of problems  of thsi world. then we  can commit our day to Him.  We need to pra daily (talking  to God daily)  Set some time each moring pour out our hearts to Him.

Ps 5:2
Give  heed to the voice of my cry.  My king and my God. For to you I will pray.

                                                                         Ps5:3
My vouce You shall hear ing the morning O God .  In the mornig I will direct it to You.
Give God our daily lives for His honor and glory  is the lest we can do for what all he does for us each and every day.
                                                                          Ps5:4
For You are not a God whe takes pleasure ing wickness nor shall evil dwell with you.
God can not live in a sinfully heart.  That is not to say that He leaves us when e sin but that we need to asked forgivness of our sins daily.

                                                                                Ps 5:5
The boustfull shall not stand in your sight You hate all workes of iniquity.

God can not sondone or excuse  even the smallest sin,  Therfore we can not excuse ourselves for dinning just a little bit.  Sin is sin in God's eyes and so it should be in ours.
We don't need to get comfortabale  as we have  today on what is sin.  If God's word says  it is a sin then it is a sin.  We need to learn from our sins and not getcomfotobale with it. As God makes us aware fo sin we must change .  As beliver shoud stive to be more tolandt of  peopl but not of their sins.

Review & Intro: Before the new generation crosses the Jordan into areas of new conquest, Moses reviews for them the victories they have already witnessed, such as the utter defeat of Sihon, king of the Amorites we saw in Chapter 2 of Deuteronomy.  They have gone from "wanderers" in the wilderness to "warriors", becoming well known to the enemies around them.  In Chapter 3, they will do the same thing to the kingdom of Og in Bashan and all of his cities and people.  When you think upon the timeline of your own life, you see the times of victory and the times of defeat.  Where are you at currently .. having victory or defeat? ... God wants to remind us again that in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are more than conquerors!  Amen.

2.  What did the Lord tell Moses concerning Og? vs. 2
3.  Who delivered Og, king of Bashan, and his people into Israel's hand? vs. 3

10.  What did Jair name that area? vs. 14
11.  What did Machir receive? vs. 15
12.  Describe the area that was given to the Reubenites and the Gadites given in verses 16 & 17 - Fill in the blanks:  "From _____ even as far as the valley of ____, the middle of the valley as a border and as far as the river _____, the border of the sons of _____ (vs.16) ... the _____ also, with the Jordan as a border, from _____ even as far as the seas of the _____, the Salt Sea, at the foot of the slopes of _____ on the east. (vs.17)"
13.  Moses reminded them of the command he gave to these tribes (Reuben, Gad, and 1/2 tribe of Manesseh) of how they could leave their wives, little ones, and livestock in the conquered areas given them on that side of the Jordan.  He wanted the vailant men of their armies to cross over with the rest of Israel.(vs.18-20)  When could they return to their families and possessions again? vs. 20 -
14.  Moses reminded Joshua of the victories over these 2 kings, Sihon & Og, as well as the fact the the Lord was the One who gave the victories to them. (vs.21)  This was to encourage him as he lead the troops to conquer the lands of Canaan on the other side of the Jordan. Write out the specific encouragement he gave to Joshua - vs. 22
15.  Moses also reminded everyone that he had "pleaded" with the Lord to change His mind about allowing him (Moses) to go into the promised land with everyone. • Deuteronomy 34:5-8
HJAWwz1345940079
Application:
19.  Moses begged the Lord to change His mind about not allowing him to enter the promised land.  The Lord told him to stop asking; He was not going to change His mind.  He did allow Moses to see the land from Mt. Pisgah before he died.  Let's look at two other instances of men asking the Lord to change His mind and how they submitted to God's will above their own.  Comment on the following verses:
  • Jesus - Garden of Gethsemane - Matthew 26:36-46 -
  • Paul - Thorn in his flesh - 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 -
20.  Have you ever begged the Lord to change His mind concerning something that you have had to endure?  Do you remember when you finally stopped asking because you could rest in His will for you above your own?  Share your experience with us if you don't mind?
21.  The heart of Moses is revealed as he passes the paton over to his servant Joshua.  He will encourage him and strengthen him. Our own failures and sad disappointments can be a platform of ministry to help others and to strengthen them as we have learned from our own mistakes and want to help them avoid the pitfalls.  Do you have some examples from your own life?
22.  Read and comment on the verse below:
  • 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 -
  • Luke 22:31,32 -

  • Romans 8:31-39 -
24.  Summarize the lesson and post a prayer if you would like.

Pick a verse to meditate on and try to memorize it. 9. Was there a promise to claim? 10. What is your summary and prayer today? Observation Questions For Exodus Chapter 33 Moses has come down after 40 days on the mountaintop, only to find an idolatrous party going on. He smashes the tablets, orders men to be killed until the party stops, then goes back up on the mountain to intercede for the people. God tells Moses to go lead the people into the land He had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But, He says, He Himself would not be leading them, but an angel. The people will be getting the promise of God, yet without the presence of God. The people put away their jewelry and Moses goes out to the tent of meeting to plead with God to go with them or not send them out. ..... Exodus 33 1. Where does the Lord instruct Moses to go to at this point? vs. 1Thfe land that he had promsed them. 2. What will God send along with them to drive out the nations they will possess in the promised land? vs. 2Angfel 3. What will the land be like when they possess it? vs. 3 flowing with mild and honey. 4. Why does God Himself say He will not be going up to be in their midst with them? vs. 3They were stiffnecked. 5. When the people heard this, they were sad. What did they stop wearing after that? vs. 4ornaments 6. Who had told them to take the ornaments off? vs. 5The Lord 7. Where were the sons of Israel at when they stripped themselves of their ornaments and did they ever put them back on? vs. 6Horeb Note: Jewish Enclyclopedia > Mt. Sinai and Mt. Horeb are the same mountain with different names for it. 8. Where did Moses go to speak to the Lord when he was needing guidance? vs. 7atent meeting place Note: Remember this was before the "tabernacle" was built that God gave the instructions on the mountain about when Moses was there 40 days and nights. 9. Who else could go out to the tent of meeting when they wanted to seek the Lord? vs. 7b anyonethat wanted to tqalk to him. 10. What would happen when Moses went out to the tent? vs. 8The people stood at thier tent entrace and watched him as he the tent meeting place 11. What would happen when Moses went inside the tent? vs. 9A pillar of cloud would stay at the entre 12. What would the people do when they saw the pillar of cloud? vs. 10They stiid and wirshipped 13. How did the Lord speak to Moses? vs. 11As a friend 14. Does this contradict the fact that God said if anyone saw His face they would surely die? No, because God the Father and God the Son are both God and yet God the Son showed up in Pre-Incarnate ways to many of the patriarchs. Jesus said that Abraham saw His day and others claimed they had seen the living God and were kept alive such as Hagar, Jacob, Joshua and others. In the New Testament, we are also told that no one has seen the face of God at anytime. Comment on this verse: 1 John 4:12 If we love one another, God abideth in us - This is treated of, 1John 4:13 - 16. And his love is perfected - Has its full effect. In us - This is treated of, 1John 4:17 - 20.- 17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19We love him, because he first loved us. 20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. we have to love each other even our enemies bacuse God is lonve and no one can lnot love others and love God. Yet, this same John, the apostle, said this in his gospel account of seeing and touching and hearing the Word of God and said that He is God - Jesus. Read these verses and comment: John 1:1-4 -1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Jesus is the light of the world why he was here but then we became that light and He was there with God in the beginning beacuse he was God the Son. John 1:14 -14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. He the son came to earth to die for our sins . He came in the form of human and felt everything that we feel, John 1:18 -18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. And comment on what the writer of Hebrews tells us in the verse below: Hebrews 1:3-5 -3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 15. Jesus spoke with Moses face to face just as a man speaks to his friend. How does the Lord speak to us and what does He call us? 2 Corinthians 4:6 -6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:18 -18But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. John 15:15,16 - 15Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 16Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. 16. Who stayed in the tent of meeting with God even when Moses left to go back into the camp with the people? vs. 11Joshus Note: We have seen Joshua a few times now. He was the one who fought Amalek while Aaron and Hur held Moses arms up in prayer. He was the one who went up the mountain to assist Moses even though he did not go to the very top to be in the presence of God with him. He was there waiting to come back down with Moes and assist him again. Now we see that he goes out to pray with him and stays when he returns back to the camp. He is getting groomed and we will find out that he is the very one that will lead the children of Israel into the promised land after Moses dies. Wow. How awesome it would be to be the assistant/servant to Moses at that time. 17. We have the record of the prayer that Moses prayed to the Lord and how the Lord responded back to him! (vs.12 - 23) - How awesome it is. What does Moses need to know from God? vs. 12awere he want s them to go God has told him He knows him by name and that he has found favor (grace) in His sight. (12b). What does Moses need to know in order to know the Lord better? vs. 13a teach him his ways. This is one pray that we should take to heart every sday and asked God to teach us his will each day . What does Moses want the Lord to remember? vs. 13b How did God respond to Moses? - vs. 14 - Name 2 things He would so this for Moses He was very pleased with him. What did Moses say to Him in return? vs. 15 If "God was not with them then not to send them from there. How did Moses say others would 'know' that he and God's people have His favor? vs. 16That God go with them. This is the same today, isn't it? How do people know that you belong to God? Read 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 and 1 Peter 2:9-12 and make comments. Back to Ex.33. - What did the Lord say to Moses in return? vs.17a -That he would do this for him. How did the Lord know Moses? vs. 17b -By name 18. What does Moses cry out? vs. 18 to show him his glory 19. What did God say His glory would be? vs.19a - Name 2 things Goodness merscy 20. Who will God be gracious to and have compassion on? vs. 19b on all thfat he has compassion on. 21. Why could God not allow Moses to see His face? vs. 20 He would die Note: Again, this is why most believe it was the Son of God, Jesus, in Pre-carnate form speaking with Moses in the tent face to face and not God the Father's face that he would have seen. 22. Where did Moses stand to be beside the Lord? vs. 21-clifted of the rock 23. God put him in the cleft of the rock as His glory passed by and covered him with His hand until He passed by. (vs.22) Then God took His hand away and allowed Moses to see what? vs. 23his back Application: 24. Moses longed to know God deeper; to know His ways so that He would know Him better. This should be the heart of every child of God. Paul had this longing so deep that he even longed for suffering to help him know his Lord more intimately. Read and comment on these verses. Philippians 3:10 - 25. Jesus prayed for you and I to taste this glory of knowing Him and knowing God in all the fullness of oneness with Them. Let's read John 17 and catch the phrases that Jesus prayed for us. Who shall we know in order to have eternal life? - vs.3 - Name 2 What glory does Jesus want to have once again? vs. 5 What did Jesus manifest to His own while on earth? vs. 6 How did Jesus keep those while He was with them? vs. 12 How will we be sanctified (set apart) for God? vs. 17 As the Father sent the Son into the world, where is the Son of God sending us? vs. 18 Who was Jesus praying for other than His disciples at that time? vs. 20 What was His prayer for all of us who know Him for all time? vs. 21 What did God give to Jesus and in turn Jesus gives to us? vs. 22 Wasn't this the prayer of Moses also? Think about it! What was Jesus' final requests to the Father for us? vs. 24 26. To know Jesus is to know the glory of God. Amen! How will this lesson effect your prayer life from this point forward? 27. Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.E Love you, Brenda

light of the world for Christ

We are the light that the world see. As christains we are to let them see Christ were ever we may be . To do that we have to let God be the leader of our lives.
