Romans Introduction By the time Paul wrote Romans, he had preached in many churches for years. His desire was to visit the church in Rome after he went to Jerusalem. However, as Paul endeavored to go to Rome, the Holy Spirit warned him about the peril awaiting him in Jerusalem (Acts 21:10-14). What if he were unable to make it to Rome? Then he must write them a letter so comprehensive that the Christians in Rome had the gospel Paul preached, even if Paul himself were not able to visit them. Therefore, in Romans, we have a thorough record of God and His plan of redemption for all mankind. Romans Chapter 1 1. How does Paul introduce himself in this letter to the Romans? vs. 1
2. Paul was set apart for the Gospel of God.
3. From the beginning of the ages, God has been promising the Gospel, the good news of a Saviour that would be sent to mankind to save them from their sins. Comment on these verses:
4. What is contained in the good news, the Gospel message in regard to God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ? vs. 3-4-these verses tell us that Jesus Christ has all power, even power over death, as was shown, in his resurrection. He had to come and be born IN THE FLESH for all of this to happen.
5. What kind of faith was Paul and the other apostles to introduce to the the Gentile nations? vs. 5 -grace and apostleship??? 6. Paul told the believers in Rome that they were also the called of Jesus Christ and the beloved of God.
7. Paul greets the church in Rome with grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8. How often did Paul pray for these believers in Rome? vs. 9 -without ceasing, always in his prayers. 9. What did he always request in his prayers when praying for them? vs. 10 -that God would allow him to come to them Paul longed to see them and see that they were established in their knowledge and in their spiritual gifts. He needed their encouragement as much as he longed to give them his. (vs.11-12) He wanted them to know that he had planned to come to them many times, but had been prevented so far from coming. 10. Who did Paul say he was obligated to preach the Gospel to? vs. 14 - greeks and barbarians, wise and unwise. 11. He was eager to preach in Rome as well. Why was Paul not ashamed of the gospel? Give the two reasons he gives. vs. 16-17 -the just shall live by faith, and the unjust will feel the wrath of God
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven. The idea is simple but sobering - God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against the human race, and the human race deserves the wrath of God. We must not forget that the wrath of God is not to be compared with the human emotion and actions of anger, but is completely righteous in character. In Romans 1:16, Paul spoke of salvation - but what are we saved from? First and foremost, we are saved from the wrath of God that we righteously deserve. In the next portion of the letter (Romans 1:18-3:20), Paul’s goal is not to proclaim the good news, but to demonstrate the absolute necessity of the good news of salvation from God’s righteous wrath. In salvation, God delivers us physically as well as spiritually from the absolute fruit of wickedness that would destroy our lives if we continued on that course. Salvation is God's plan to rescue us from destruction and to restore us to the experiences with God that we could not have in our sinful state of nature. 12. When we live ungodly and unrighteous lives, what are we suppressing; not allowing to come forth? vs. 18 -the truth 13. What has God made evident to all mankind and how has He done it? vs. 19-20 -his invisible attributes are easily seen in the things he has made, but yet many refuse to believe, his eternal power, and his Godhead. 14. Does any man have an excuse not to believe in God?
15. Every man knows there is a God. How do they get so far away from Him in their choice to not believe? vs. 21 - 25the fell far from God in their actions, and beliefs, so God let them go into the desires of their hearts, and in their "wisdom" they became as "fools" Note: When man decides that they want to be at the center of their own universe, they worship themselves above God. This is humanism and the prevalent false religion of our day. God has given each one of us a freewill but we are not free to choose the consequences of our unbelief. When God gives us over to our own lusts and impurities, we will reap what we have desired to sow in exalting ourselves above His love and design for us. 16. When God gives mankind over to their own degrading passions, what is the result many times? vs. 26-27 -homosexuality, and things not normal for man and women to feel and experience.
17. What do the homosexuals, whether man or woman, receive in their own bodies for this sin against God and His creation? vs. 27 -the penalty for their error that is due them 18. What are other results of not acknowledging God as "God" in our lives? When God gives us over to the depraved minds that we have apart from Him, what are the results that manifest in us? List them below and if you have time, look up their meanings and give a more thorough definition for each. Vs.28-31 -
19. Each person knows in their heart of hearts; in their God-given conscience that those who have a habitual life in these things are worthy of death (God's wrath). They go ahead and do them anyway. What else do they do? vs. 32 -approve of others doing the same things.

Romans Introduction Notes:
From Bible Pathways
The Christian life is progressively revealed in the Book of Romans.
The main theme is the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth. . . . For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:16-17; comp. Habakkuk 2:4).
Chapters 1 - 3 establish three facts: 1. The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness (Romans 1:18); 2. Both Jews and Gentiles . . . are all under sin (3:9-11); 3. By the deeds of the Law there shall no flesh (person) be justified (3:20).
Chapters 4 - 5 explain that the righteous God has provided the only way for anyone to be forgiven of all their sins: Jesus our Lord . . . was delivered (put to death) for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (4:24-25; 5:1).
Chapter 6 explains the meaning and importance of believer's baptism: Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (6:3-4).
Chapters 7 - 8 reveal the conflict that exists between the believer's new spiritual nature and the old fleshly (sinful) nature. The victory is also revealed: If Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. . . . Therefore, brethren, we are debtors (under obligation), not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify (put to death) the deeds of the body, ye shall live (8:10,12-13).
Chapters 9 - 11 declare a universal Gospel (Good News) to all mankind: There is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (10:12-13).
Chapters 12 -16 contain guidelines for spiritual growth and insight: (1) present your bodies a living sacrifice . . . unto God; (2) be not conformed to this world; (3) be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove (discern) what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (12:1-2).
Paul emphasizes how important the Old Testament is to an understanding of the nature of God and of the Christian life: For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning (15:4).

ps 107:1-16
Read Psalm 107:1-16
Hudson Taylor, the humble servant of God to China, demonstrated extraordinary trust in God's faithfulness. In his journal he wrote:
"Our heavenly Father is a very experienced One. He knows very well that His children wake up with a good appetite every morning...He sustained 3 million Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. We do not expect He will send 3 million missionaries to China; but if He did. He would have ample means to sustain them all...Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply."
We may be faint & weary, but our heavenly Father is all-powerful. Our feeling may fluctuate, but He is unchangeable. Even creation itself is a record of His steadfastness. That's why we can sing these words from a hymn by Thomas Chisholm: "Summer & winter, & springtime & harvest, sun & moon, & stars in their courses above, join with all nature in manifold witness to Thy great faithfulness & mercy, & love."
What an encouragement to live for Him! Our strength for the present & hope for the future are not based on the stability of our own perseverance but on the fidelity of God. No matter what our need, we can count on the Father's faithfulness.
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All that I have needed Thy hand hath provided---
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
He who abandons himself to God
will never be abandoned by God.

The Pastor and His Son
Every Sunday afternoon, after the morning
service at the church, the Pastor and his eleven-year-old son would go out into their town and
hand out Gospel Tracts. This particular Sunday
afternoon,as it came time for the Pastor and
his son to go to the streets with their tracts,
it was very cold outside,as well as pouring
down rain.
The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest
clothes and said, "OK,Dad,I'm ready."
His Pastor dad asked,"Ready for what?"
"Dad,it's time we gather our tracts together
and go out."Dad responded,"Son,it's very
cold outside and it's pouring down rain."
The boy gave his dad a surprised look, asking,
"But Dad,aren't people still going to Hell, even
though it's raining?"
Dad answered,"Son, I am not going out in
this weather." Despondently,the boy asked,
"Dad, can I go? Please?"
His father hesitated for a moment then said,
"Okay,you can go.Here are the tracts.Be
careful,Son." "Thanks, Dad!" And with that,
he was off and out into the rain. This eleven-
year-old boy walked the streets of the town
going door to door and handing everybody
he met in the street a Gospel Tract. After
two hours of walking in the rain,he was soaking,
bone-chilled wet and down to his very last tract.
He stopped on a corner and looked for someone
to hand a tract to,but the streets were totally
deserted. Then he turned toward the first home
he saw and started up the sidewalk to the front
door and rang the door bell but nobody answered.
He rang it again and again, but still no one
answered. He waited but still no answer. Finally,
this eleven-year-old trooper turned to leave, but something stopped him.Again,he turned to the
door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on
the door with his fist.He waited; something
seemed to be holding him there on the front
porch! He rang the doorbell again and this time
the door slowly opened.Standing in the doorway
was a very sad-looking elderly lady.She softly
asked,"What can I do for you, son?"
With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her
world,this little boy said,"Ma'am,I'm sorry if I
disturbed you,but I just want to tell you that
JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU,and I came
to give you my very last Gospel Tract which
will tell you all about Jesus and His great Love."
With that,he handed her his last tract and turned
to leave. She called to him as he departed."Thank you,Son! And God bless you!"
Well, the following Sunday morning in church
Pastor dad was in the pulpit. As the service began,
he asked,"Does anybody have a testimony or
wantto say anything?"Slowly,in the back row
of the church,an elderly lady stood to her feet.
As she began to speak,a look of glorious radiance
came from her face,"No one in this church knows
me.I've never been here before.You see,before
last Sunday I was not a Christian. My husband
passed on sometime ago, leaving me totally
alone in this world."Last Sunday,being a
particularly cold and rainy day,it was even more
so in my heart that I came to the end of the line
where I no longer had any hope or will to live.
So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the
stairway into the attic of my home.I fastened
the rope securely to a rafter in the roof then
stood on the chair and fastened the other end
of the rope around my neck.Standing on that
chair,so lonely and brokenhearted I was about
to leap off, when suddenly the loud ringing of
my doorbell downstairs startled me.I thought,
'I'll wait a minute, and whoever it is will go away.'
"I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell
seemed to get louder and more insistent,
and then the person ringing also started
knocking loudly.I thought to myself again, '
Who on earth could this be? Nobody ever
rings my bell or comes to see me.' "I
loosened the rope from my neck and started
for the front door, all the while the bell rang
louder and longer and the knocking on the door continued insistently. When I opened the door
and looked,I could hardly believe my eyes, for
there on my front porch was the most radiant
and angelic little boy I had ever seen in my life.
His SMILE,oh,I could never describe it to you!
"The words that came from his mouth caused
my heart that had long been dead,to leap to life
as he exclaimed with a cherub-like voice,
'Ma'am,I just came to tell you that JESUS
REALLYDOES LOVE YOU .' Then he gave me
this Gospel Tract that I now hold in my hand.
"As the little angel disappeared back out into
the cold and rain,I closed my door and read
slowly every word of this Gospel Tract. Then I
went up to my attic to get my rope and chair.
I wouldn't be needing them anymore."You see,
I am now a happy child of the King.Since the
address of your church was on the back of
this Gospel Tract, I have come here to
personally say 'thank you' to God's little
angel who came just in the nick of time and
by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity
in hell."
There was not a dry eye in the church. And as
shouts of praise and honor to the King resounded
off the very rafters of the building,Pastor dad
descended from the pulpit to the front pew
where the little angel was seated. He took his
son in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Probably no church has had a more glorious moment, and probably this universe has never
seen a papa that was more filled with love and
honor for his son... except for One.
Our Father also allowed His Son to go out
into a cold and dark world. He received His
Son back with joy unspeakable, and as all
of heaven shouted praises and honor to the
King, the Father sat His beloved Son on a
throne far above all principality and power
and every name that is named.
Blessed are your eyes for reading this message.
Don't let this message die, read it again and pass
